Project spotlight: HashStream

Our recently launched HashStream app gives the Hedera community a highly visual and intuitive way to understand how much and what kind of activity is happening on the Hedera network in real-time at any given moment.

Hedera is an enterprise focussed cryptocurrency network, it recently played a central role in the Reserve Bank of Australia's Project Acacia trial to investigate the potential role of decentralised ledger technology (DLT) in the nation's future financial systems and payments infrastructure.

The organising principle behind the app is that visitors should be able to get a sense of how busy the network is and what kind of activity is occurring in a single glance -- they shouldn't have to read a bunch of numbers or interpret a bunch of charts to understand the level of activity on the network.

We aimed to make the app not just information rich but also nice to look at, we even included an ambient mode which is particularly nice on a desktop display in fullscreen mode, functioning almost like a screensaver that displays Hedera network activity.

HashStream Warmly Welcomed by the Hedera Community

HashStream has already attracted the attention of the Hedera community, with well-known YouTuber Brandon Hargreaves (aka The HBAR Bull) mentioning it in his weekly network update last week.

"HashStream is very different from a lot of the things we've seen in the past, but it does a lot of things well," Brandon said in his coverage. "The first thing I noticed is it show that even single digit TPS can be pretty impressive when it's presented in this way...it also breaks the transactions down into the type -- the bigger the sphere the larger the revenue."

Deeper Analytics App In Development

We're happy with HashStream, it does a good job of providing a simple and intuitive overview of network usage at a given point in time.

Now though we're turning our attention to a bigger project on the Hedera network which we hope will bring much needed transparency to what's happening on the network in a far deeper way.

While we're still in the very early stages of development we can say that the purpose of this project will be to provide the tools to allow Hedera community members to identify and map out use-cases on the network, a sort of crowd sourced network intelligence app.

We feel that Hedera desperately needs this kind of tooling to help the community get a better sense of what's actually going in terms of use case development and meaningful network adoption.
